Brief Background on the Institute:
Prior to its establishment, the school existed as Rinpung Primary school in Rinpung campus
located just below Rinpung Dzong till 2003. On up-gradation of the school to Lower Secondary
School, it was shifted to Khangkhu, the present site, and remained as a Lower Secondary till
2006. In 2007 it was further upgraded to Middle Secondary with the aid from GoI, India and
and by then the school had basic concrete infrastructure to accommodate both primary
and secondary classes along with administrative block and Science laboratories. It was
only in April 2007 that the school got furnished with five concrete buildings which housed
classrooms and other facilities like science laboratories, and Information and
Communication Technology room. ADEO, Mr Choezang Drugyel formally inaugurated the
school on 16 March 2004. The then principal of the school was Mr. Tshewang Rinzin.
In the past this place „Khangkhu‟ was named as “Khamphur” for the reason very proper. The
local history asserts that a holy relic, “phurba” flew from a very holy place called Kham located
in the country of Tibet and landed on its destined place which is situated approximately half a
kilometer below the school. Thus, no name other than “Khamphur” accorded well to the place.
Presently a fine temple is built and posited exactly on the place where phurba set itself down. It
is frequently visited by the villagers as well as outsiders for various purposes associated to this
place. With time as new generations replaced older ones the pronunciation of orally transmitted
word like any other word(s) got slowly dissipated and changed to “Khangkhu” as pronounced in
the theory of Language Learning/Acquisition of Language Learning.
