Paro Dzongkhag hosted a stakeholder consultation meeting and training to strengthen the implementation of the National Dog Population Management Program (NADPM) and Rabies Control Program (RCP) 3.0. The program is being carried out by the Dzongkhag Administration, Paro in close collaboration with the De-suug office and NADPM, Department of Livestock.
Chaired by Dasho Dzongdag and attended by the Local Government members, De-suups, sector heads, regional agency representatives, representatives of Dratshang, institutional partners including RBA, RBP, and BFDA, along with our dedicated livestock field colleagues.
Key discussions centered on responsible pet dog ownership, registration, and microchipping initiatives across the Dzongkhag.
Dasho Dzongdag and all stakeholders reaffirmed their shared commitment to effective rabies control and responsible dog population management, ensuring a safer and healthier community for both people and animals which also aligns very much with Paro Dzongkhag Annual Work Plan and key priority for 2026-2027.
After the meeting and training on 14th September 2026, the actual NADPM-3.0- Pet Dog and Cat census, on-site pet dog registration, enforcement of responsible pet ownership and survey of unowned free roaming is expected to commence from 15th September to 19th September 2026. The program is being carried out by 35 Livestock technical officials and 48 De-suups.
