River systems are crucial for both ecological balance and human communities. Rivers provide habitats for diverse plant and animal species, supporting wetlands and floodplains. They play a crucial role in the water cycle by transporting freshwater and replenishing groundwater. Healthy river systems help moderate local climates and extreme weather conditions. Furthermore, river provides drinking water for millions of people and it is also vital for irrigation, helping sustain food production.

Cleaning up the Pachhu River is not only beneficial for the environment but also strengthens community involvement in conservation efforts. With 105 dedicated volunteers from the Red Cross Club of Paro College of Education, the event demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility toward maintaining the health of the river systems.


The collaboration between the Dzongkhag Administration and Paro College of Education highlights the importance of institutional support in environmental sustainability. This important initiative enhanced health of Pachhu River by reducing pollution and maintaining water quality, protecting biodiversity and aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, raising awareness about environmental conservation among students and the community.
