Tenzin Thinley, Dasho Dzongda, Paro Dzongkhag took over as the new chairman of the Wangchu Basin Committee on September during the 6th Wangchu Basin Committee meeting held at the Hotel Tashi Namgay Grand, Rinchending, Chhukha.

Wangchu river basin Committee was established as per the executive order of the Prime Minister vide letter no. c-2/273 dated April 14, 2016. The committee consists of the Dzongdas, Dzongkhag Tshogdue Thrizins and environment officers of four Dzongkhags namely Thimphu, Paro, Haa and Chhukha. Thimphu Dasho Thromde and its environment officer is also a member.

Few of the WBC’s functions are as follows.

  1. Promote community participation in the protection, use, development, conservation, management and control of water resources in its area of operation through education and other relevant activities.
  2. Prepare River basin Plan
  3. Collect, manage and share data as are necessary to properly manage the basin in coordination with the commission.
  4. Monitor and report to the commission on the effectiveness of the policies and action in achieving sustainable management of the administration of water resources in its area of operation.
  5. Help resolve cross sect oral and Dzongkhag trans-boundary issues relating to water resources in its area of operation.

Dasho Dzongda, Paro Dzongkhag will be serving as the chairman of the WBC for one year.
